The Art of Feeling
Emotions have a rather interesting reputation. They're often treated as something to manage, monitor, keep under control, or even overcome. Allowing ourselves to feel deeply can be portrayed as overly indulgent, or even a sign of weakness — as though there are more important things to be getting on with.
But what if we've been approaching them through a distorted lens?
Our emotions are an extraordinary source of information, offering glimpses into our beliefs, memories, relationships and the ways we've come to understand ourselves and the world around us. Far from being a distraction, they can offer an invaluable vantage point, bringing greater clarity and intention to how we navigate our lives.
The more intimately acquainted we become with ourselves, the more clearly we begin to see everything else.
Following our previous evening exploring Friendship, we're turning our attention towards The Art of Feeling itself — the fascinating process of becoming acquainted with who we are.
Grounded in the philosophy of The Art of Feeling: From Wholeness to Wholeness, this isn't about fixing ourselves or striving towards some imagined destination of completeness. It's about recognising that there is already so much of ourselves worth knowing.
An Evening of Music, Storytelling & Reflection
Emotion in Motion brings together live music, psychology, storytelling and personal reflection in an intimate exploration of what it means to be human.
Through a blend of original compositions and familiar songs, woven together with piano, guitar and a cappella harmonies, we'll explore what becomes possible when we approach ourselves with curiosity and gentleness rather than criticism and control.
The evening is intentionally intimate, allowing for moments of recognition, curiosity about the stories behind the songs, and questions that may arise along the way. Sometimes, in hearing something of another person's experience, we come to recognise something of our own.
While our stories, interpretations and emotional experiences may differ, the capacity to feel is part of what makes us human. And in that, we are most certainly together.
Perhaps the art of feeling begins when we stop asking ourselves what we ought to feel, and become curious about what we actually do — and what those feelings might reveal.
An invitation to become more intimately acquainted with yourself, and to discover what becomes possible when you do.
